Changing the Batteries in NXT/NXT Wireless and BLE Lockboxes

The NXT/NXT Wireless (blue) and The Bluetooth® REALTOR® Lockbox(gray) have an internal lithium battery. The batteries in these lockboxes can last up to 6 years, depending upon climate, storage and use.

Note: Do not remove old batteries from a lockbox until you have a replacement in hand. Also, do not carry unpackaged batteries in your pocket or purse as metal objects could cause a short circuit and thereby cause bodily harm or property damage.

What you Will Need

To replace the battery in an NXT/NXT Wireless (blue) or a Bluetooth® REALTOR® Lockbox (gray), you will need:

  • 2 lithium type Panasonic CR123A/CR17345 batteries. Contact your Association/Board to obtain batteries for your lockbox
  • A Phillips -head screwdriver to remove the battery cover screws

Note: If the lockbox shows no signs of activity and you cannot access the key compartment, the battery is dead. You can use a Power Paddle to provide a temporary charge to the lockbox and access the battery compartment. Contact your Association to obtain a Power Paddle.

How to Replace the Battery

Follow the instructions below to replace the battery in a NXT/NXT Wireless (blue) or Bluetooth® REALTOR® Lockbox (gray):

  1. Use the SentriKey® Real Estate Mobile App or your SentriCard® to open the lockbox key compartment.
  2. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the battery cover screws.
  3. Flip the battery cover open and reveal the two batteries.
  4. Remove the two Panasonic CR123A batteries with a screwdriver (or a finger).
  5. IMPORTANT: Do not remove old batteries from a lockbox until you have a replacement in hand. Do not carry unpackaged batteries in your pocket or purse.
  6. Using two, new Panasonic CR123A batteries, install each battery into their battery cavity with the negative terminal going in first. The terminals are staggered, so the batteries will be facing opposite directions. Refer to the battery cover for proper battery terminal positions.

Note: Incorrect installation of the lockbox batteries may result in damage to the product or property. This could also result in serious injury and void the lockbox warranty.

  1. After putting the new Panasonic batteries into the lockbox, install the battery cover.  There are tabs on the bottom of the cover that slide under the hooks directly above and behind the battery cavities. Slide the tabs in under these hooks at an angle and lower the front of the cover down flat.
  2. Re-install the two battery cover screws with the Phillips-head screwdriver.
  3. After you replace the batteries in the lockbox, update the Last Battery Replacement status on the SentriKey Real Estate Website. Use the following steps to do this:
  4. Log in to the SentriKey® Real Estate Website.
  5. Go to the My Lockboxes page.
  6. Search for the lockbox serial number and click on it.
  7. On the Edit Lockbox page, you can find the Last Battery Replacement field in the System Information Update the Last Battery Replacement field with the most accurate date.
  8. Save your changes after updating this information.

Note: The lockboxes have a memory backup circuit that will retain the lockbox settings and timekeeping system during a battery replacement. The memory backup circuit will only operate for a few minutes after the batteries have been removed from the lockbox. It is recommended to update the lockbox clock after every battery replacement.
