Boston Utilizes SentriLock Lockbox System to Allow Secure Access to Shared Bikes
Nicole Freedman, Director, Boston Bikes, said “The City of Boston’s bike pool is part of Mayor Menino’s commitment to making Boston a world-class biking city. City of Boston employees can lead by example. And have a bit of fun, too.” Nine locations and more than 30 bicycles are now available for City of Boston employees to use for work-related travel.
The bikes, valued at $50,000, were donated by Giant Bicycle. “Giant is happy to partner with Boston in the bike pool program,” said Elysa Walk, General Manager of Giant Bicycle, Inc. “Cities across America should follow Boston’s lead and show their residents, by example, that most short trips can be taken by bike and save everyone time, energy, and money.”
Part of the success of the program relies on the ease of accessing a bike for use, while still keeping the bikes secure from theft. That is where SentriLock steps in with a key lockbox that has an illuminated keypad to facilitate access.
